At Harter Secrest & Emery, we have a long history of helping those in need, and we are looking for attorneys who are interested in continuing that tradition. We believe in taking an active role in shaping the future of the legal profession and our communities.
Pro Bono Efforts
We consider it our professional responsibility to assist those who do not have the ability to pay for legal services
but whose needs are great. We have a formal pro bono policy that encourages our attorneys to undertake at least
25 hours of pro bono representation each year, and we treat this time as billable. Many of our attorneys participate
in the Volunteer Legal Services Project and the Volunteer Lawyers Project, Inc., while others accept pro bono
assignments from the federal courts. Because of the outstanding commitment shown by our attorneys,
we have been widely recognized by clients and legal service providers for helping to improve the lives
of those around us.
Community involvement is woven deeply into the fabric of our firm. Currently, our areas of focus are education, the arts,
and the empowerment of families and individuals to secure safe housing and job skills. The firm supports a wide variety
of charitable organizations through volunteer service, fundraising, and ongoing legal counsel. We have many attorneys
who hold leadership positions in national, state, and local bar associations, and our attorneys are active in many civic,
community, cultural, professional, and public benefit organizations. It is important to us that we regularly contribute
to the cultural vitality of the cities in which we practice.
